Tour of Terror 2018

Hobart, IN

Located just 15 miles from the Illinois/Indiana border in Hobart, Indiana, is the Tour of Terror.  Now, this location is pretty unique and most likely something you haven’t experienced before. It actually is on the grounds of the historic Nike Missile Base C-47.  Yes, you read that correctly, this was at one time a fully functional nuclear missile base.  (And is even on the National Register of History Places.) How cool is that!?

Now, keeping to its location, the concept is that we are new recruits stepping onto the base and ready to go through boot camp.  We were met and escorted by one of the army personnel and dropped off to meet the man in charge and receive our orders. Most of the “human” actors are dressed in fatigues and role playing a part of being in the military using what seemed like proper lingo to even complete the fantasy.

The best part of this attraction is by far the historic and natural settings it has to offer.  From the old missile silos, barracks, medical wards, to many other military buildings that are just decaying from years of lack of maintenance.  There aren’t any “store bought” materials here, even down to the smell, the rust, the feel… is creepy enough to send shivers down your spine!

The real performance is conducted by the cast of actors scattered around the compounds to make you feel as if you are in a war zone.  Non “human” actors attacking at every angle that they can and appear to be infected, rabid, and relentless.  The entire cast fully immerses you into the story and at some point, you don’t know if you will make it out alive! The actors/escorts even make you “run for cover” as you feel the ground really shake!

Monsters of Note: Frank the bunny (DON’T GIVE HIM ANYTHING SHARP), and the commander.

The Bottom Line: Tour of Terror does a wonderful job making patrons focus on their overall concept and it easily makes you forget about the outside world. Combining haunted house with some war-role playing, this was definitely an exciting mixture! We deeply enjoyed our time here and are still “running for our life!”

***Editor’s Note: Tour of Terror depicts military actions and characteristics. While we are not experts on military accuracy, we appreciated the uniqueness of this attraction. We have the utmost respect for our military and feel this portrayal was done with full respect.
