Remember all those horror movies that we love to watch? The ones with the dark and creepy houses located in the shadows on a desolate and winding road? Well, we would say that Hoppers Haunted House is as close as safely possible to getting to that cinematic authenticity.

Hoppers Haunted House IS located on a bendy stretch of Illinois Route 2 that is not overly lit. Acting as a lighthouse peering through the dark, Hoppers’ trademark ambulance flashes calling us in like a ship to harbor. The night we visited just happened to be raining very hard and helped to round-out the movie-like ambiance.

Hopper’s Haunted House is as old-school as you can get in the Chicagoland market. Once a trademark of the Jaycees, Hopper’s utilizes black hallways and walls as the skeleton of the monster it has created. The tour spans hundreds of linear feet and sends guests twisting and turning through a black wormhole. There are brief moments when we are able to surface and catch our breath, just before plunging back into the darkness forcing you to use all your senses to survive!

One of the major differences here is that Hoppers has no animatronics. Other than your own demons and imagination, all scares are delivered at the hands of the cast here. Playful and hungry, actors and actresses stalk their victims relentlessly.

Monsters of Note: Mr. Kringle

The Bottom Line: This place is scary! We have known the ownership of Hoppers for a long time, and they understand fear. It is dark, damp, and daunting. Keep your eyes peeled, your hands out for walls, and watch your back, because we know that the monsters lurking inside are! Congratulations to Bill and his team for 25 years of frights; we can’t wait to celebrate the next 25!
