Fear Fest 2018

Located right on the Illinois-Wisconsin border, in South Beloit, Illinois just 1 mile East of Interstate 90 is Fear Fest. Boasting three haunted attractions on its property, 2018 is a special year of fear for them, as they are celebrating their 20th operating season!

We began our evening by boarding the wagon to set out on our journey on the “Haunted Hayride”. Under the bright moonlit skies above us, we ventured out into the unknown. As we made our way past many different scenes, actors attacked our wagon from all angles and some even came onboard with us! There were moments where we thought we were never going to make it off the wagon alive! A great feature: the entire wagon is rigged to feel the brunt of the attacks! Watch out!

Heading toward the second attraction which was named, “The Haunted Barn”. This attraction is set up with your traditional pop scares, mix in the real dirt floors, tight black hallways and the use of uneven floors, makes for one heck of an adventure!  Another really unique feature that we don’t get to see much of in the Chicagoland area is the use of a 60 foot grain silo!  Set up with red and green laser lights dancing above us, it was quite the sight to see and great use of such a unique item! Fun fact: This was the original attraction when the property opened!

Last but not least, we made our way to the third attraction, “The Funhouse”.  The newest of all the attractions on the property, The Funhouse was one of the most interactive attractions we have experienced. As we began our tour, we had a personal tarot card reading! Seriously! Her name was Kat, and she was fantastic! Another favorite included the carnival game scene were we got to play games! There was also a tea party, and even a special visit with Santa! (As he notified us: on vacation!)

Monsters of Note: Santa and Uncle Chuck

The Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a night of all types of fright, Fear Fest is the place for you. This is an all-around wonderful evening to spend with family and friends and enjoy the Halloween season together! With three great attractions a great price, fun fall concessions, and free parking, run for the border for this essential Halloween experience!
