D.E.A.D. Rising Haunted House

One of the most special attractions in the Chicago area is: D.E.A.D Rising in Crestwood, IL. What makes this location so special? Well, for starters, the mastermind behind the scenes is none other than John Vitiritti. John was one of the visionaries behind the legendary, “Dream Reapers” haunted house. Lucky for us, he is still as blood-thirsty as ever, and allowing the demons in his head to create some of the most sinister visions conceptualized!

DEAD Rising isn’t hard to find, but does take your attention in locating the turn-in drive. Like any good monster, it is hiding behind something else, just waiting for your arrival. In this case, it is a Sprint store, karate studio, and next to the McDonalds.

From the moment you step out of the car, that concept of “safety” goes right out the window. It’s clear that we are in their world, as we are very quickly introduced to, “Nurse O-feel-ya-pain” and “Havoc.” This is quite the duo forming our very own demented version of ‘Lucy and Ricky Ricardo.’ She (Nurse) is off the wall, riding on her miniature tricycle, popping pills, and reciting 1920’s euphemisms, while he (Havoc) fails to keep the whole operation under control resulting in chaos galore. Without a doubt, one of the best combo-acts we have seen in the game!

AND this is before we even entered the attraction!

Inside, the world of the underworld takes over as we are immediately escorted to the “Hellevator” straight down. After the rocky ride, we are met in the church by a preacher who explains what exactly is required of our souls and the sacrifice we are about to give.

Twisting and turning through the nether, the journey takes us through a variety of horrific scenes and even a few turn-arounds! They even have a few of their own carnival tricks, and strap unwilling guests to the ‘wheel of death.’ (Are you sure their knife-throwing skills are on-point?)

But, the absolute highlight had us “washing our hands.” (I think this might be the only attraction doing this routine!) Very creative, and did exactly what haunted attractions were designed to do: freak you out!

The Bottom Line: This is a great hometown haunt, and one that should be among your considerations this Halloween season. It is raw, rough, and in-your-face. But, why wouldn’t you want your ghouls with a side of blood? The time to get messy is now!
