Amenti Haunted House Looking for Volunteers

DeKalb, IL – The 9th annual Amenti Haunted House at the historic Egyptian Theatre in downtown DeKalb, is returning for nine nights this year.  Amenti will be open Oct. 17-19,Oct. 24-26, Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 1.  Amenti features 20 different scenes on 6 different levels throughout the theatre.  This is a one of a kind attraction in the United States and has been featured in numerous publications.

“Amenti” is the Egyptian Goddess guarding the world of the dead.  Within her gates lie the horrors of the Egyptian underworld.  Terrors await those who dare to enter.  Amenti jealously guards her gates and assures that no one escapes, so enter at your own risk!

Each year, over 100 volunteers dedicate hundreds of hours to help make Amenti possible and successful. This year, volunteers are needed from Oct. 4 through Oct. 16 to help load-in and build the haunted house inside the theatre.  Volunteers are needed Oct. 17 – Nov. 1 during nights the haunted house is open to help as actors, security, ticket taking, costumes and makeup.  Volunteers are also needed Nov. 2 – 12 to help with the load out of the haunted house.

Various volunteer shifts are available each day and no experience is necessary.  Volunteers from area high schools, NIU, Kishwaukee College and throughout DeKalb County have helped with Amenti over the years.  This is a great opportunity for service groups to volunteer together in a fun activity.  Individuals and groups are encouraged to participate.  Volunteers are needed to help with carpentry, painting, theatre tech, decorating, construction, publicity and other fun projects!

Those interested in acting need to complete the simple actor application online at www.amenti.info.  Training sessions will be provided for participants who will be acting.  Volunteers for Amenti must be 16 years or older in order to act.  Volunteers are asked to commit to at least two nights of the haunted house as an actor.  Volunteers are eligible for lots of great perks such as food, t-shirts, and other special prizes.

The proceeds raised by the Amenti Haunted House go to the ongoing operations and preservation of the Egyptian Theatre.   General admission tickets are $13 and priority passes are $20.  Priority passes allow visitors to skip the wait in line and go straight to the front.  The haunted house is recommended for ages 13 and up, due to the intense scare factor of the attraction.
