For those that have grown up in the suburbs of Chicago, one place comes to mind for those looking for haunted entertainment year-round, Haunted Trails’ Amusement Park, located in Burbank, Illinois.  For those that have never made the journey here, it is definitely something we recommend!  Not only does this location bring family fun and spooky entertainment, but it will give your family a hauntingly busy evening.

Here, guests can play mini-golf on their spooked-out 18-hole course, ride a few go-karts, and even head inside to play a few arcade games in their large game room and have a few snacks and refreshments too.  As the calendar turns to October, they close off part of their parking lot and in comes the haunted house, “Frightmare” ready to dish out some screams.  If you’re looking for your experience to be in-your-face intense, than this attraction is not for you.  This is designed for the entertainment of young children, ones that are just being introduced to haunted houses, but also makes it fun for the adults too.

This year’s theme, “Doll Freaktory” took us within the walls of a doll factory.  For those that are not so good with dolls, then get ready to hold on tight to the special someone and get ready to scream, because dolls are EVERYWHERE!  Not knowing what to expect next, it’s as if the eyes are watching you, following your every move.  Making your way through winding hallways throughout led us through many scenes filled with so much detail, we didn’t know where to look first!

Frightmare once again threw us for a loop and changed their pathway through the attraction!  It was definitely a great change that worked for them and used their space perfectly.  While still focusing on being for younger aged children, it put that scare factor up a little higher than years passed!

Now, in addition to the haunted attraction, something that makes them so unique is that it is actually two different levels!  The breakup of the path helps to ease your mind that you’ve made it through, only to send you right back in to the madness ahead.  It makes this house feel like a funhouse and adds a classic carnival feeling as well!

One of the rooms we enjoyed the most was that of the large playground area.  Complete with dolls sitting on swings, the room made our jaws drop with how much detail was inside!  With other small details throughout the attraction, it made the rooms even creepier, we suggest keeping your eyes open on a small little doll close to the ground… you’ll know exactly what we mean!

The Bottom Line:  Want to bring the entire family to a haunted house this season, and you aren’t quite sure where to start off at?!  Without a doubt, Frightmare is the place for that! Simply put, it is: authentic, wonderful, and clean family fun that doesn’t include anything too “extreme”.
