New for 2013, CarnEvil is located next to the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates. Although they are brand new, the evil minds behind this attraction have over a decade of experience in the industry from previous attractions. So, we definitely raised our expectations before even walking in the door.
One of the most unique attractions this year has to offer, CarnEvil has a combination of activities to give patrons a complete night of entertainment. There are (3) haunted attractions, The Tomb of Laveau, Carny Town, and Ma Buckner's Doll Factory. There is ice skating with zombies, called, "Blades of Gory." To round out the entire experience, there is a full scale carnival complete with all your favorite rides.
Of course, you can expect clowns, and tons of them. Some of the most memorable characters include Chokey (famous from all the posters), Mr. Creeps, and BallZack. While Chokey may be the posterclown, and Mr. Creeps may be the only height-challenged actor we have seen this season, BallZack was definitely the highlight of our night. He took turns making jokes and crafting balloon creations that seem to always resemble.... swords. He truly made us forget about the cold night and filled us with laughter.
Each of the haunts are a great time, packing quick punches in a small space. Details are well-done and quickly capture your imagination. Some of the best highlights include the hillbilly house in Carny Town, the Catacombs inside the Tomb of Laveau, and the elevator ride in the Doll Factory.
Even walking around the grounds helped to tie-in the entire theme. While other attractions have done clowns before, no one does them quite like CarnEvil.
With this being only their first year, we truly can't wait to see what the demented geniuses will come up for next year!
Highlights we scream about: BallZack the clown, Carny Town and Chokey the Clown
What to expect for 2014? With this first year under their belt, we know that CarnEvil won't disappoint us and will come up with something even bigger for 2014!

- Official 2013 Haunted House Chicago Review Team Review
I rate this attraction a 10 and found it to be worth every penny. The detail that was put into the costumes and makeup was impressive. There were several characters that definitely stood out. The guy in the maze with the potato bag mask was outstanding. He made that haunted house worth going into a second time. The clowns are also great, particularly "Ballsack" and Bones, the cute female that walks around and the two boys that are meant to act a little "slow." I enjoyed them so much, I even ended up giving the girl clown a stuffed dog I won and went on a carnival ride with them. The Freddy Krueger type character that walks around is another that deservers recognition. Just another great character that added to the fun of the evening. I've worked at haunted houses and done the makeup for them before, so I have an appreciation for the job they do. Unfortunately I don't get scared at haunted houses, but I still enjoy them; and I recommend this one to anyone that wants to have a good time. ALL the characters were outstanding, however, I find that those mentioned above are worth seeking out. Enjoy the maze :) -April
